Full cleanup of ALL accounts is not a solution(and re-add even helps not). I also noticed that some IMAP settings — like the root folder path (e.g. "INBOX") — are not available in the new Outlook, which makes troubleshooting more difficult. In the classic Outlook, I would normally check or adjust these. All default folder will show up as top-level ones and mail will start populating to the Inbox folder. For faster and more reliable delivery, add to your trusted senders list in your email software. Simply enter your email address OR username in order to reset your password.

Furthermore, when calendar invites are accepted using the Outlook client, they disappear from All Mail and go into the Trash folder, but when using WebMail, they remain in the Inbox. I have several email accounts / IMAP set-up. So looking at my tree of how to fix Outlook not opening today email accounts one inbox might have 10 mail total and 3 unread form earlier. It's not until I click on that folder I will then see the 10 and 3 and two second later it will sync and new ones will populate. So my Junk folders do not have that box checked, but the Inbox doesn't have a box to be be checked - their behavior is the same they are both not syncing, until I manually click on them to force the sync. I have half dozen mail accounts a few microsoft a gamil and some other ones and there is no difference they are all acting the same. These a general steps to check your IMAP settings in any email application. With the help of this, you can also ensure that the server settings are properly configured or not. If you can take a look at your mail server settings specifically the IMAP and SMTP. Make a note of the values and delete an overwrite them also check your passwords for both SMTP and IMAP.

I did see a response from a MS person that said it was working as intended, that it wouldn’t refresh the folder until it was selected. Although that seems like a load of BS, but could just be a con to try to migrate people to exchange at a higher cost. After that, it is also important to secure your IMAP folder to prevent this issue from happening in the future. So, properly follow the above steps and backup your data from IMAP folders. I am aware of the difference between Gmail's labels vs. Outlook's folders, but I would expect that Gmail does what is necessary to make the folders appear correct over the IMAP connection to Outlook.
